Dinner in Vienna: Fabio's

Mara and I had both checked in with friends on recommendations for dinner. One restaurant showed up on both the lists so we knew we had to go: Fabio's. We threw on some dresses, made Mike take our picture, and went to grab pre-dinner drinks at a local cafe called Delia's.

We order some prosecco while Mike checked out the martini menu :)

It was a perfect summer night; warm with a nice breeze. No need for a sweater or scarf, so when a table opened up outside, we pounced on it.

See those chips in the background. Don't be fooled by their humble look. They were amazing!

After a few prosecco spritzers, it was time for the main attraction. We walked around the corner to Fabio's. It was a beautiful restaurant so I grabbed my camera to take my pics. Three seconds later the bartender came out from behind the bar to curtly tell me: no pictures miss. Hmphh! I snuck one in anyway.

Our reservation was for 10 PM and the place was still packed. We asked if we could sit outside on the patio. After a lot of managers coming to scope us out (and Mike's charm), we got a table right in the middle of everything outside. We dug through our menus excited to order. Look how cute these two are!

I didn't capture a picture of this, but when our waiter came over we asked to start with a cheese plate. He looked at us like we were CRAZY. Cheese is only eaten as a dessert here (and he happened to be a master cheese sommelier). Oops. This was to be the start of an excellent friendship with our waiter, Christophe. He made our weekend. But more on that later.

The food itself was good but nothing unforgettable. Mike and I both order the filet and Mara got the sea bass. We had a few starters that I forgot to get photos of.

Christophe arrived back at our table with lots of extra goodies. First up, grappa. Not my favorite thing.

He brought out the 'man grappa' for Mike (left below) and the 'woman grappa' on the right for me and Mara. Both were terrible :)

Then came out hand selected specialty cheeses from our personal master cheese sommelier. The gooey ones spilling over on the spoons were unbelievable!

We ended the night with a glass of lemoncello and a list of cheese recommendations for a near by milk bar compliments of Christophe.

Thank you, Christophe! We had the best night!
