A Sardinian Holiday Part One

The last time I took a proper vacation was all the way back in February at Miraval. After a brutal Chicago winter, a move across the world, and getting settled in a new office, I knew it was about time for a break. Back in the States a week is the usual vacation length. Here in London, however, the minimum break most people seem to take is two weeks, and often three weeks. I decided on a happy medium with a week and half.

Diane and I hopped on a plane out of London and barely two hours later we landed in the sunny paradise of Sardinia. Sardinia is an island off the coast of Italy with stunning views of the Mediterranean. August is high season, so instead of going to the most popular parts of the island, we headed to the quaint Northwest coast  to a town called Alghero.

We landed to a perfect 85 degrees while London was in the upper 60s and raining. We could barely contain our excitement. We hopped on a bus and arrived at our lovely airbnb apartment just as the sun was setting.

We were starving so we headed out the door to find a quick bite. A pizzeria, Ramblas, was right around the corner and still packed with locals out on the terrace. We waited for a good thirty minutes to get a table and happily picked out a salad, pizza and liter of vino. The olive oil on the table was unbelievable. It made me realize that I need to stop buying the cheap stuff at the store and invest in some quality oil.

When our pizza finally arrived it was one of the top 5 pizzas I've had ever. It had sausage, caramelized onions, beans (!) and a tomato sauce that had a burst of freshness in your mouth. You would have loved it.

Diane got a pretty awesome photo of it. Mmm.

The next day (and honestly most days) consisted of sleeping in, eating breakfast, then headed out on the beach with packed lunches to read and swim.

Here's an overload of beach pictures. It was so beautiful there and the pictures just capture part of it.

I adored this little black and white stripped umbrella. It felt so chic and Parisian.

After a full day of sun we headed right to the gelato shop! Everyone else had the same idea.

And ended most nights right back on the balcony with dinner and wine. It was lovely. We did have a few adventures which I'll share soon.
