A friend and I ventured over to a free festival with 10 minute acts from all the West End Musicals. The line was looong, but we stuck with it and got to see snippets of Jersey Boys, MamaMia and The Bodyguard.
It was getting hot so we headed over to the most adorable little wine bar, Terroirs, for some afternoon prosecco and nibbles. I highly recommend it. I was adventurous and went with the sardines on toast. Not bad.
Now friends, things started to go a little south. I arrived at my building to find the fire alarm going off and two fire trucks arriving to investigate. We could see a bit of smoke coming from the second floor but it didn't look that bad. It was around 4:30 in the afternoon and I had a date at 7, so I asked the police officers how long it was going to be. The response; a while! So I headed over to a nearby tea and cupcake shop to wait it out.
At 6:30 the street was still blocked off. I realized, I was not going to get to change for my date. Oh well, good thing I had a decent outfit on. He took me out for an awesome night of dinner, a comedy show and dancing. I don't know what I would have done without that. SO much fun.
Around midnight I headed back to my corporate housing to find that it was a pretty bad fire. Thankfully, no one was hurt! They still don't know much about what started it, but no one can return there for at least a week. The power was shut off, so a firefighter escorted me up to my room so I could pack a bag. I'm so grateful that my room was undamaged. Two doors down from me the room was completely burn to a crisp. The floors and walls were black, the walls disintegrated and the insulation charred. Really scary. They put me up in hotel for a few days and are sorting out what will happen next for my next three weeks of corporate housing. Wild!
I can honestly say I've yet to have a dull movement in London!
So glad you're okay, and your apartment too! Thank goodness you found an adorable place to move so quickly.
