Rose's Luxury

On Friday night I was in DC and met a friend for dinner at a new restaurant, Rose's Luxury. It's near Eastern Market and, to be honest, the menu didn't impress me online. However, we all know not to judge a book by it's  cover. The menu is just deceptively simple.

When you walk in it will be packed and they do not take reservations. It gives a off a cozy and eclectic vibe. It's surprisingly bigger than I would have expected. A bar upstairs with hand crafted cocktails and the main dining room has little white lights that dot the ceiling.

Our server was just as cool as the space. She grabbed my suitcase, put it in the office and told me to relax. She knew everything about the food but in the most unpretentious way possible.

First up was their interpretation of potato skins: potato bread with creme fraiche and bacon bits. We ate up every last bite. We paired that with Kusshi oysters in a ginger ale granita. The oysters were good, but nothing new.

Next up we split the popcorn soup with grilled lobster. This sounds weird, and it definitely had a unique taste, but I loved it.  Very rich and creamy. i recommend splitting it (in cute mason jars).

My favorite dish of the night was the Pork Sausage, Habanero and Lychee salad.  Here's Andrea giving it a good stir. Apparently it has 25 ingredients in it, but it's so well done that everything works together flawlessly. The lychee gives it a cool refreshing start, while the pork and habanero add a little spice. I found this too good to only have one. So we ordered a second!

We also had a ricotta stuffed gnocchi in mushroom sauce which was rich but tasty. And finished off with a darling little dessert: a poached pear in an ice cream sauce.

Just when we thought we were done our server arrived with the bill and some mint chocolate chip
meringues.  They were a decadent end to a fabulous meal. I can't wait to go back!
